Istambul es la Ciudad mas grande de Turquía y la Ciudad mas poblada de toda Europa con unos 14 millones de habitantes, es considerada ademas como una de las Ciudades mas bellas del orbe, y se encuentra situada entre dos continentes el asiático y el europeo, y su posicion estrategica la hace ser predominante para la economía, cultura, política y comercial.
Turquía es un País de religión musulmana en gran mayoría con minorías cristianas ortodoxas y judías ya que su historia así lo hicieron posible, una gran mezcla de idiosincrasias de los pueblos árabes, moros, anatolios, griegos, búlgaros, otomanos, romanos, hicieron que sea muy rico en tradición y se arraigue en el conocimiento y folklore de los ciudadanos de Istambul se vea reflejada y sea parte de su encanto,
Hasta el año 1923 Istambul era conocida con el nombre de Constantinopla en honor a su fundador el emperador Romano Constantino que creo la Ciudad como Capital del Imperio Romano de Oriente y antes del año 330 la Ciudad era conocida como Bizancio, Capital del Imperio Bizantino, como verán aqui en el territorio de la actual Istambul, han convivido a lo largo de los años Persas, Turcos, Bizantinos, Otomanos, Romanos, Griegos, Espartanos, Macedonios, con el Emperador Alejandro Magno uno de los mas reconocidos de la historia, realmente una joya de tradición y cultura para el amante de la Historia del Mundo moderno.
La grandiosidad de la Ciudad y su máximo esplendor se debe a después de la conquista por parte del Imperio Otomano de la Ciudad encabezado por el Sultan Ahmet que derroto al Imperio Bizantino en la batalla del cuerno de oro (ultimo bastión de los Bizantinos en la Ciudad), en 1453, marco un antes y un despues en la historia de la Ciudad para la sociedad Europea debido a que con ello se dio el fin de la Edad Media,
Del primer esplendor del Imperio Bizantino destaca por su hermosura y prestancia la Catedral de Santa Sofia, obra maestra del arte bizantino que la envio a construir el Emperador Justiniano, luego de la conquista Otomana la Ciudad paso a ser de cristiana ortodoxa a musulmana y en la cual se contruyeron varias mezquitas impresionantes en tamaño e historia.

La moneda que utilizan en Istambul es la Lira Turca que mas o menos equivale 1 euro a 3 liras turcas, un taxi desde el Aeropuerto de Atartuk al centro de la Ciudad o el barrio del Sultanahmet cuesta mas o menos 60 liras turcas o 20 euros, y demora aproximadamente unos 40 minutos en llegar, hay servicio de metro desde alli y el costo es de 10 liras turcas o 3.5 euros, en la misma Ciudad el servicio de metro y tranvía son muy comunes y populares y los pasajes están valuados en 4 liras turcas o 1.5 euros,
En cuanto al clima debes siempre ir abrigado con un sobretodo o cortaviento ya que al estar expuesta al borde de un río y un puerto hacen que los vientos soplen bien fuertes dándote sensación de frío,
Un buen Hotel para hospedarte como primera opción para que puedas tener a mano y muy cerca los lugares turísticos es el barrio de Sultanahmet y la segunda opción es cerca de la plaza Taksim, debido a que allí se encuentra la vida cultural, de entretenimiento y social de la Ciudad, lo que yo te recomiendo son unas zapatillas cómodas y mucho caminar pero si tu eres de las personas que eligen el City Tour Bus el costo es de 40 euros por un ticket de dos días mas un paseo muy recomendable en barco por el Rio Bosphorus,
En cuanto a la alimentación, Istambul esta proveída de muchos restaurantes, panaderías y cafés, por lo que no debes pasar apuros en comer deliciosos potajes de la comida turca y árabe, que con mucha dedicación estos platillos te deleitaran, por lo que no temas probarlos y disfrutarlos, eso si ten cuidado con el consumo de agua de grifo es preferible siempre consumir tu botella de gua, por cierto un almuerzo o cena para dos personas te sale alrededor de 50 liras turcas o 17 euros.
El cobro para el ingreso a la Hagia Sophia es de 25 liras turcas o 8 euros, la Mezquita Azul es gratis, pero debes ir en pantalones y si eres mujer con ropa discreta para poder ingresar debido al respeto a la religión musulmana, allí ellos si eres mujer te prestaran una burka para que puedas ingresar y uno debe quitarse los zapatos, por los alrededores de estas plazas evita a los vendedores ya que suelen ser muy exigentes e insistentes por lo cual te puede alterar tu tranquilidad y armonía con lo que es lo que buscas para tu recorrido, y la ultima recomendación seria la internet esta bloqueada para ciertos tipos de paginas webs por lo que debes preveer ante cualquier inconveniente.
